We believe that solutions developed elsewhere may not always be relevant to the diverse peoples and communities that comprise New Mexico’s unique cultural landscape. We value the promise of place-based solutions that are immersed in local knowledge and reflect and respect local cultures. In our search for solutions, we look to our grantees, whose work, communications and lessons learned frequently provide the best answers.

The McCune Charitable Foundation is dedicated to enriching the health, education, environment, cultural and spiritual lives of New Mexicans. Details of the various open application grant opportunities are detailed below. All grants will be unrestricted, general operating grants and must benefit New Mexicans. Organizations can apply for only one grant per year, regardless of category.

NM Collaborative Zone Grant Stories

Launched as a pilot program in 2019, the first NMCZG cohort of collaboratives is concluding nearly three years of building initiatives that responded to New Mexico’s challenges and also extended beyond the mission of any single participating organization.

The collaboratives began their work within a framework of questions – open-ended to both encourage learning and inspire transformational change among sectors, as well as ignite shared work among dozens of organizations throughout the state. Flexible funding from multiple local and national foundations was provided to develop, prove and support innovative responses to these questions.

We invite you to read about the collaboratives. These are the stories of everyday New Mexicans at the heart of the work. Each story tells of the unique outcomes, program development and relationships in the community that resulted.
