Creating Prosperity in New Mexican Communities
The McCune Foundation continues its commitment to funding in the areas of arts, education, environment, health, and social services. We are working to stimulate economic diversity, nurture sustainability, and bridge the economic gaps that exist in our communities with the aim of creating wealth for all New Mexicans.
Through our funding work, we have learned that many of the important problems facing our state, especially in the areas of health, social services, and youth, often stem from depressed economic conditions. Under the direction of our Board, McCune has recently committed significant resources to improve economic conditions, a critical issue that, along with education and health care, it recognizes as crucial to the well-being of those who live here. In 2005, a new category - economic development - was created to reflect a direction already apparent in the Foundation's grant making.
It is our vision that every New Mexican will have a well-paying job which he or she enjoys, with all the requisite health benefits, and have the opportunity for ownership of a home. As our nation's first and only "majority minority" state, New Mexico can demonstrate the full social and economic potential of culturally diverse communities, both nationally and internally, by emphasizing the specific strengths and benefits of societies that embrace and leverage their unique combinations of culture and experience. We have undertaken studies with the help of those with expertise in different areas to determine what obstacles exist to optimize business success.
